Huaka’i ma uka to ma kai (Journey from the mountain to the sea): Spend time in some of the places that shape our island and our community as we deepen our understanding of the ʻike of the poʻe Hawaiʻi (knowledge of the Hawaiian people) who have stewarded this ʻāina (land) for generations. At Kīholo, we’ll learn about the history and purpose of Hawaiian fishponds and reflect on our kuleana to care for these coastal ecosystems. From the slopes of Puʻu Waʻawaʻa, we’ll explore the brilliance of the ahupuaʻa system and consider how it continues to guide stewardship efforts today. Together, we’ll engage in meaningful work that supports the ongoing restoration of these places we are privileged to call home.
