Mr. Rosenberg joined the Parker School ‘ohana in 2025 after serving as a teacher for over a decade in a variety of schools and places, including Japan, New Zealand, Australia, and Hawaiʻi. Most recently, Mr. Rosenberg served as a professor of writing and humanities at the University of California, San Diego where he helped develop and implement a curriculum that serves thousands of college students every year. Born on Maui and raised on the Hāmākua Coast, Ryan’s ʻohana lives in Laupāhoehoe and many of his lifelong friends are from Waimea. He spent a brief time at Parker School in 2007-08 and has many fond memories of Mr. Naj’s AP Lit class! Mr. Rosenberg received a bachelor of arts in linguistics from the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo and a master of international affairs from the University of California, San Diego. Mr. Rosenberg enjoys applying his passion for writing, storytelling, and language in the classroom. Outside of school, some of his favorite activities are surfing, digital photography, tennis, board games, and watching films with his wife Natsuki. Mr. Rosenberg says, “I’m a big fan of project-based learning because I believe there are many unique paths to solving every complex task. I want each of my students to feel that they are free to choose their own path, that those choices are valid, and that I genuinely want to learn along with them.”
