Lower School Day

Lower school students enjoy special subjects each week, including PE, music, art, garden and Spanish. All students have PE, music and Spanish twice a week for 30-45 minutes, depending on the grade level. While fine arts are integrated into the classroom daily, each grade level has visual arts once a week for one hour. Students in grades 3-5 have the opportunity to differentiate their learning in math and are placed in a math class appropriate to their skill level. Additionally, lower school students may participate in afterschool activities throughout the year, including chorus, cross country, HYSA soccer, and track and field.

The structures and routines of Conscious Discipline are integrated into the school day. Students develop the skills to respond to conflict in a safe and helpful way. The 4th and 5th grades are trained in peer mediation and rotate the responsibility for mediating during lunch recess.

A lower school student has the same schedule each day of the week.
